Artist Statement

Since childhood, I have had an intense love for animals of all kinds and a fascination with fantasy worlds. This has inspired the creation of a whole new litter of critters. I’m interested in subverting negative reactions to certain “creepy” or “pest-like” animals, to instead reflect nurturing and compassion. My sculptures are derived from animals both beastly and benign in order to do just that.

I build these anomalous chimeras using a wide range of construction methods to match the wide variety of animals created.  By placing the animals in endearing poses, using sophisticated modeling, and rendering them with playful colors, I create animals that are ultimately inviting despite some of their disturbing attributes. They provide a glimpse into my own imagined world.
